Finding our way back to the stars

The things that light us up are often our gifts.

Many of us spend a lot of time burying the things we loved as kids, thinking we can’t possibly carry them into adulthood. Often we’re made to feel like they’re just frivolous hobbies, or we’re told they won’t make us money, so we should shift our focus to something supposedly more lucrative and respectable. But the truth is, the things that light us up are often our gifts. We should never take them for granted, let alone abandon them, for in doing so we abandon ourselves.

Part of the work of adulthood is pushing past fear and shame to revive those things we were drawn to as kids. How do they keep calling out to us as we get older? How have we abandoned them again and again? The risk and reward of reclaiming them as gifts can be quite the task, but I believe it’s worth it. Sometimes, it’s things you never could have imagined would be significant or lead to a career or help you serve others. Sometimes, it’s so clear in retrospect. Once you start connecting the dots, it all makes sense, and you can’t look away. Your past and future conspire to help you recognize who you are in the present.

Astrology has always called out to me. The Zoltan machine at a local ice cream parlor spat out a little card to me when I was about fourteen. It told me all about my sun sign in Sagittarius. I held onto that card for years. I would look up all the signs and study them on the old school AOL dial-up Internet, comparing compatibilities with my crushes, trying to figure out what was real and what was bogus. Not all of it seemed legit, or like it even fit my personality, because I didn’t know the full picture of my birth chart yet. Now, I know that my moon and rising signs have so much to do with my life, not just my sun sign. But the seeds were planted all the way back then. Now, as I study astrology in earnest and embrace it as part of my healing work in the world, I’m excited to see where the roots and branches take me.

Our birth charts can point us back to exactly what we wanted to be when we were young. If we choose to embrace that knowledge, we can use it to spend our time creating the life of our dreams and living in alignment with our purpose. If what we wanted to be as a kid just doesn’t resonate anymore, we can study our chart to learn how we’ve evolved and get closer to what makes us come alive now. The options are endless, but with astrology, we can begin to find direction.

Reiki can also get us in touch with what our soul wants. I’d love to be your guide/channel and serve as a witness to your evolution.

Here’s to finding what lights you up.
